The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
I can almost hear the groan already... many of you didn't like the mummy, it's sequel, or the scorpion king. me, i liked the first 2 for pure kicks. Scorpion King had 1 good line, and the rest was... well, it was what it was.
so despite what you will all say, Mummy 3 be on the way.
Quote:Brendan Fraser has closed a rich deal to return in “The Mummy 3,” but Rachel Weisz is not coming back. Rob Cohen will direct the pic, which is expected to begin production late in the summer. It will be set in China and will introduce Jet Li as a villain.
Big problem for me: no Rachel Weisz? She's one my favorite hollywood eye candies.

Over on his official production blog, Mummy 3 director Rob Cohen updated fans on when we could expect to see the first trailer for that film, due out later this summer. He says, "I showed the entire film to Adam Fogelson, Eddie Egan and Frank Chiocchi, the marketing heads, because it is critical they have as much time to work on the film's presentation to you, the audience, as possible. We should have the teaser trailer out within a month and, hopefully, you will find it as exciting as I have dreamt this year of work to be. I will talk to Universal about premiering the teaser here on my blog so that you, who have showed so much interest in my film, will get to see it first. I'll let you know what they say."
As of now, Cohen claims the film runs just over two hours and is excited about screening it for Universal big wigs later this month. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is due out in theaters on August 1.

I don't think I ever saw the second one but I really enjoyed the first one. The special effects were way ahead of their time and it was a fun little ride.

I liked the first 2 a lot - great summer popcorn flicks I revisit on DVD at least once a year. The Scorpion King... not so much. Not the Rock's fault IMO - just a horribly written script. Anyways:
MTV news reports that according to the brand new Evey (Maria Bello), "[There will] absolutely be The Mummy 4." She also went on to tell MTV that she has signed for not one, but three more sequels.
We all know by now that The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is a bit of a departure for the franchise. Not only do we get a new bad guy and exotic locale, but we also have Bello taking over where Rachel Weisz left off. Sure, Brendan Fraser and John Hannah have returned, but this is not The Mummy that most of us know and love.
Although she did hint that the next film might take place in South America -- Universal might want to see what the box-office returns are for Emperor first. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor arrives in theaters on August 1st.
As I mentioned above, the loss of Rachel Weisz hurts me on this one, but I'll stay interested at least until a trailer pops.

I was sad to see Maria Bello replace Rachel Weis.
@Jody: The second one was better IMO.

Wait! Rachel Weis gone? Blasphemy, her character was one of the great parts of the first one, even if she did get annoying.
Interesting overall, i'll have to put it on my queue.

Well, she's not horrible -- I just like Rachel Weis quite a bit, and I really dislike when the actor changes for an established character... it really takes me out of the story.

Looks like a fun popcorn ride for the living room, judging by the trailer.
