Post Iron Man
Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment will kick off the 2008 summer movie-going season on May 2nd with Iron Man, the first motion picture to be produced by Marvel under its alliance with Paramount.

The Iron Man film will be produced by Avi Arad, creative advisor to Marvel Studios, and Kevin Feige. Executive producers are Ari Arad, Favreau and Louis D'Esposito. This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, is expected to be financed through Marvel's $525 million revolving film financing facility and distributed under Marvel's overall distribution arrangement with Paramount. Iron Man will mark the first production under Arad's newly launched production company, Avi Arad Productions.

Commenting on the announcement, Helfant said, "We're very excited to lock down the release date for 'Iron Man,' Marvel's first independently produced feature film. We couldn't have asked for a better partner than Paramount to work with on this very powerful character franchise."

Moore said, "Marvel is one of our most important partners and 'Iron Man' is one of their premier heroes. We're thrilled to be launching our relationship -- and the summer season in 2008 -- with this movie."

Based upon Marvel's iconic Super Hero, the film will follow billionaire weapons-manufacturer, Tony Stark, who confronts the sins of his past after he is injured by one of his own weapons. Equipped with a high-tech suit of armor, he becomes Iron Man to combat evil on a global scale.

Sweet, I look forward to this. Always an under-rated character.

Iron Man director Jon Favreau confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday that the villain in the movie will be fan-favorite Mandarin!

The Mandarin is one of the world's greatest scientific geniuses who is seeking world domination. Although The Mandarin has no superhuman powers, he is a superb athlete with tremendous skill in the various martial arts. For weapons, he uses ten rings he wears on his fingers that respond to his mental commands.

Marvel Studios has set a May 2, 2008 release date for Iron Man. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film.

listen, i don't mind all the comic movies- it's my young years come to life. some suck, some are cool- and some are just plain awesome. i'll keep an open mind until i see it for myself. i mean, people shit capes for superman returns, but it was still just hollywood rocking the franchise in what now is the decade of comic movies (blog entry coming soon). in the meantime, teaser poster from the comic con.

Holly wood has realized now that if done right, comic movies can make huge bucks. There are tons of characters and stories. They all target the 18-34 demographic as well and the children the parents will take along to see these movies, and they have the special effects to pull them off. Superman was a great movie when it first came out. Then Batman made huge bucks, then Spider-Man broke crazy records so now everyone wants to do the same.

All they gotta do is stop altering the stories so much from the originals. The original stories is what prompts them to make them movies in the first place.

The Hulk sucked because of this. Yeah, they bought his father into the story line, which was a huge part of his Banner's character, but he never became the Absorbing Man... WTF?!?

i agree with you there-- i would even go so far to say that you can chnage the plot so long as you make it awesome-- i mean, we're not going to care how venom comes about- i read a spoiler that it won't be secret wars style- but because it looks like they're going to do the character right anyways. with hulk, man- they just handled that screen play all wrong. christ, they could have made it close to the tv show and had a hit.

iron man was always an interesting character, but im not sure how this will translate to the screen. its sorta like punisher and daredevil- the movies were ok, and were quite faithful, but something was just missing. here's to hoping they get old bucket head right..

Amen to that.
It would also be nice if they got a good actor to play the part. With the exception of Christian Bale as the new Batman, I've not been impressed. Tobey and Kirsten are god awful, but I love the comic enough to watch it anyway.

tobey fits the character of spider man though- the geek who gets powers. who would you cast as tony stark?

Tobey doesn't really fit, he's a shitty actor with no personality. Topher would have been a much better Spiderman.

As for Iron Man, we would be looking for a person who can play an arrogant, rich as hell, pretty-boy, playboy.

Let's go down the list;
Christian Bale - good, but just did Batman
Eric Bana - good, but just did Hulk
Dylan McDermott - got the look, but not the greatest actor.
Jim Caviezel - good, but can Jesus play Iron Man?
David Boreanez - Guy from Angel, has got the look and attitude.
Brad Pitt - got the quality's, just not to sure how it would turn out.
Tom Cruise - NO!

Personally I'd like to see an unknown get the part.
What does everyone else think?

there's the guy who played superman too- but he just did superman. good list otherwise. angel guy might take my money- i still think tom cruise is a good actor unlike everyone else who breathes air, and think that's a cool idea too.

If you wanna get nutty, I would add that Adrien Brody fellow- he can act, but def. needs an iron suit to play a super hero. Could work. Liam Neeson could rock it out- that dude from donnia darko- and i think the Rock could turn that role inside out jabroni!

Actually if you want to get nutty, Michael Keaton could pull it off. He's a great actor.

Based only on looks John Cusack looks alot like Tony Stark. He might even be able to pull it off. PLus he's my favorite actor so it would be awesome to see him in a comic book movie.

lazy link paste-r. and so:

Academy AwardŽ Nominee Robert Downey Jr. will take on the role of one of Marvel's greatest Super Heroes, signing on as the title character for Marvel Studios' highly-anticipated Iron Man.

Downey is widely recognized as one of Hollywood's most versatile actors. Nominated for an OscarŽ for his extraordinary portrayal of Charlie Chaplin in "Chaplin," Downey has been featured in more than 50 films. His upcoming credits include "Fur" (co-starring Nicole Kidman), "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints," and the David Fincher film "Zodiac." He has also recently been seen in such films as: "A Scanner Darkly," "The Shaggy Dog," "Good Night, And Good Luck.," "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang," "Gothika," "The Singing Detective" and "Wonder Boys."

... see, BERTMAN: that's how you paste a story!

Anyways, this sounds kinda cool to me.
